Wonder what happens at an aid station?

It's been a while since I posted, and I've been pondering whether I'll be keeping the blog alive somehow going forward. It was intended only to track my Western States journey, which I thought at the time would be a one-time thing, but I was so moved by the distance and the fundraising efforts that I'm scheming up ways we might be able to raise even more money for the Wounded Warrior Project (I like the sound of $25,000). Donations continue to be received, too, which is absolutely spectacular. Stay tuned for my next adventure (I haven't decided on it yet), and please, if you feel moved to do so, please click the link on the right side of your screen and make a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project. In the meantime, I'm still logging my miles and gearing up for two marathons, the Bourbon Chase relay, a half marathon, and my favorite local race, Pere Marquette, this fall.

I am writing, however, to share the embedded video below was just released. It features footage from the Devil's Thumb aid station at approximately Mile 48. The video does a great job of portraying all the hard work that goes into aid station volunteering--the food, the medical help, the costumes, even the popsicles! I make an appearance at the 5:39 mark as a volunteer douses me with sponges. Moments before, I was doing this. Someone told me that they'd never seen me at such a loss of words. The climb to Devil's Thumb, in the heat of the day, was without a doubt the hardest physical feat I have ever done.

Thanks again to all of the volunteers who see to it that we can make the finish line!
